my life. its like that now. trying to enjoy it and making the best of out it. dun worry i am. its just that in life... road are filled with rocks. its like... u dun see bacteria.. but they are present.

i miss the days where i had shorter-term directions.everyday, busy busy busy, filled with challenges and excitment. not that i'm not being challenged now or wad lar. its juz that.. things are different in every every every single aspect.
honestly, u name an aspect of my life, its changed. downhill? hars.
i'm gg on 17 now. scary. started this whole blogging thing when i was gg on 14. so so so many thing has happened to altered my path, mould me into who i am today.. gd or bad (in u own perspective), whether u accept it or not, marian is ya, marian.
simplicity do comes with complexity.
its as gd as having child like faith... having to ans a question coming from a little boy.."how do we know if God is preseny?"
see. simple. but the depth is sometimes not within reach.
i'm always trying to change things for the better. kcpb exco can testify that. changes made, in my opinion, can be gd, but results shown can be bad.

bascially, i've learnt one impt lesson in life- learning.
u learn from bascially, everything. failures gives the greatest lessons. the decison u make changes paths. duh. everyone knows that.

a word of little advice to readers.. do strive hard for your utmost best. if u have time, make the best out of it, heading directions leading towards ur positive goal. personally, if u dun give ur best, i guess, literally, wasted.. and again, time and more effort would be wasted in regret, trying to salvage or rectify the error that is ultimately caused by you.

tap. inspired.
Oooo. today tap class was like all adults expect for little 12 yr old oli!
its been like 5 months since i've tapped. today's my 2nd time. ahah. so much syllabus to catch up.. and the steps we learnt today required a difficult timing thing.. so was like.. super duper lost until reaching ending.
after class... cannot feel my ankles.. then later started to ache. haha. then was looking at the jazz and hip hop dance... got quite inspired to do my best in dance, all over again. perhaps thinking of gg back into hip-hop.
hmm...
today, sch was like ultimate leparking. e lepark gang shrunk. it got so so so boring that jasmine and all went for lecture! haha. man. ultimate leh. there was food, sleepping, bball, sleeping againg, caram.. and all sorts lar. even resorting to playing hp games. from 845-1.30pm. that was what i was doing.. thank God for su and ash who came like at 2pm, but left at 245pm. so yar. anyways...
in conclusion, tchrs shuold allow students to lepark till they are on the verge of dying of boredom and therefore, cultivate an urge to enthu-ly sit for lectures.

i've applied to work as an Attractions Operations Officer in Sentosa. haven called me for interview yet. pray for a quicker response so that i can make plans for march till april. working this is not much for the $$... more of job experience. ok lar.. $$ still impt.. but yar... PRO PRO PRO.
as for polys, kinda VERY disappointed the no poly has shortlisted my name for interview. having thing feeling that 70% i'll end up in SP out for which, 5)5 chances that i'll be doing business or tourism.
pray for STRONG DIRECTION from Papa k. dun want to go wrong path.
as for my guit. i've met pro musicians in SAJC.the current 'band' is Joshua, Joshua, Joshua, Jane and Brandon. haha. Joshua 3. haha. oko.. Joshua wong, Joshua samuel, Joshua chiam. so yar. brandon is bassist(also electric and singer), joshua samuel is ultimate lead guit, joshua wong is a pianoist(also a bassist, can be rythm guit), joshua chiam is drummer (can also be rhythm), jane is singer. (:
these are ultimate pro. they play gd. haha. they were jamming and all.. got high n started playing Go go power ranger. but u should hear their song -meant to live-.. pulled it off quite well. juz needs more prac.
chiam has inspired me to go into drummin.. but that'll be much later...
for now, marian wants to improve on electric, and even more on e piano, hopefully able to play for teens time by june/july/aug,and juz want a cool foundation in bass. as for drums. later lar. haha.
meanwhile, i wanna learn how to sing properly. so that as i play e guit, i won't spoil e song with my voice. ahha.
looks like there's alot of learnign to be done. very excitied. (: thank God for giving me opportunities man. we'll all work uber hard for You yea... so ppl can see who issit in our lives that making all these gd things possible.

man. i love her speech. like whoa. learnt so so so much abt the human mind. well.. not much of learning lar.. i guess its more of being alerted.

sports.
gonna try cover sports today.
well well.
gg to poly, if i dun join a sports cca, that's it. hahaha. goona juz really waste my youth away.
on the whole, the word 'sport' is like a hit-hard: physical.
has the mental aspect of it gained its most deserving respect and staged its level of importance? as sportsmen, i'm sure many of u guys will understand the mental part of it especially during tournaments, competitions, whenever pressure is on.
its kinda cool how the body reacts to adrenaline, making us push much furhter, and even futher, and stil wanting to reach further. that's one thing 'shiok' abt sports.
personal recounts. b div 2004. that's the most messed up tournament. we had the skill. we had the team. we had the players. but we didn't have the game. meaning, we didn't have the mind. so in the end, despite having the strongest team of KC's time, we lost, badly.
as for rugby, heard from friends lar. coz now its e start of their seasons.. so they have been playing with schools from all over singapore.. for st andrews.. getting a 80+ game with their opponent scorin NIL, is norm for them. the game usually ends b4 full time. acc to the senior graduates who got their sources, the team wasn't ready for their first match. they played with junyuan, and only scoring 46-0. subsequently... they were more or less prepared, and scored 80+ matches.
however, again, i gguess its the sch CA test.. today, they played against EVG n had 56-3. so yea. hahhaa. but i heard its alot of unfairness lar. dirty playin. ):

okok. back to lighter topics. haha. why did i chose bowling? it MIGHT have been a wrong choice coz i did not take the financial part into account. but anyways, if i didn't have bowling, i would not have had experienced sajc.why bowling? bottomline: its my passion... also.. kc didn't have soccer, touch rug, basketball, odac(then), sailing(then). they had really really limited sports that i like. yes, there's tennis, badminton, swimming, track and field... but i feel that my passion for these sports aren't as stronger for the 1st few mentioned ones.
so. sports. i'm sure that in any area, it builds stamina, that's for sure. and slowly.. values like perseverance, discipline, passionate will slowly be inculcated. cool huh. perspective changes. usually, more cheerful. this should be agreeable right.
sajc is really sports orientated. maybe its juz that me, coming from a sch with arts as her niche area, feels such a big change. everywhere. ppl in pe shirt. i mean.. students could have wore their uniform.. (besides sayin that it's hot.-temp. wise. haha.) bball is everywhere. bball courts are usually filled. bags with sports equipp everywhere. haa. wonder if vj, tj, mj, tpj is like that. rj, ij nad acj should also be quite sports orientated.

the days.
well. my days are numbered.
in SAJC.
HAHA.
one thing i rmrbred recently from Mrs. Lim (principal)..

i'm goona miss the cafe alot. 70% of my time is there. next would be the track, gym and the fitness area. this is the 4 mega place that i'm there.. haha. okok. yes yes. and the Cultural Centre.. all the lectures, cny, and 1st day stuff are done there.
haha. well. tmr is the start of my 2nd last wk. i've decided to go for tutorials only, so that i won't be black listed, after all, i'm still a student in sajc.. should not break any of the rules. i'm goona go for econs lect and tut. coz i think this sub can help me in poly. haha. gd huh. i think far. hahahahaha. wadeva.
was flippin through friendster.
yes, frienships were made. my acc increased by a gd 15%. photos were uploaded. as for my friends in kc. seeing them with new friends, gives me a greater appreciation for my current friends. not that we won't meet any more. but we'll meet less often. and its kinda sad.
plus, i'm sure that there'll be more addition of friends when i get to wherever. kidna have to re adapt. so yes, treasure the times we have left.

but. the college badge n song seemed to have changed. so yea. haha.

whole day lepak only. pon lect and all. but i go for all tutorials and classroom stuff. coz seriously, i dun do things w.o objective. if i go for lectures, confirmm distract others. haha.

since my life is like really lepak-ing n all.. ill blog abt my dear spammer.
somehow or rather. i think that its the same person and last time.. the spammer who said that i use 'omg'... and keep sayin and so on.

seconadly, ur use of language is not that strong either. same goes to ur vocab. ok. i'll name u some ppl whom i respect them alot, in terms of their command of english. one of which is samanatha lee. she argues, pin points and states with evidences supporting her arguement. her command of eng is strong that sometimes, as a reader, u do not have time to think- time is wasted on deciphering her strong language use. next would be john ang. i juz like his writing style. goes through alot of thinking, and can be influential; very, at times. his perception on articles also provides readers with a widerscope n view of the situation, making u literally sit on the fence.
these are writers whom i do respect alot; rather than, u. to even use the word 'cham' in trying to comment on one's command of english. btw, ur punctuation is really atrocious.
thirdly, haha. since when do i want to become popular in poly? being popular comes with alot of demands and uncessary pressure. time can be wasted in areas of hanging out and so on. u mean u want to be popular? then i guess, u're already infamous in a way, trying to comment on me in a negative manner (which i dun reallly mind) but disclosing ur identity (which i do mind).

The difficult issue of premarital sex

Premarital sex in the world
There is no longer any stigma attached to premarital sex in our society. Pop stars do it, sports stars do it, politicians do it. Hormone levels are raised by advertising, television, cinema, music and magazines. What is discussed is not so much premarital sex, as non-marital sex, or even non-'heterosexual monogamous life-long relationship sex'.
Such is the confusion and need for definition.
Sex is seen in several ways:
1. Sex as 'need'.
It is said that there is a natural instinct (akin to a hunger for food) which we all have, and that to repress it is damaging to physical and mental health.
2. Sex as 'experience'.
It is said to be beneficial for people to accumulate as many different experiences of life as possible. Premarital sex with several different partners is said to be one of these experiences. Sex is exciting and is seen by some as an essential component of a good weekend.
3. Sex as 'experiment'.
It is no longer sufficient for a couple to be emotionally, spiritually or intellectually compatible. If they are really serious about each other they ought to discover whether they are sexually compatible, too. In the context of cohabitation, this is sometimes seen as a trial marriage.
4. Sex as 'expression'.
If two people love each other it is seen as natural for them to express that love through sex, regardless of their marital state.
The limits of sex in the world
There is a tendency for Christians to assume that the world is much more sex-crazed than it actually is. It's not quite true to say that "everybody is doing it". There remain, of course, some taboos in this area. If we can speak generally, premarital sex is acceptable in current western societies only within certain limits:
1. Consent.
Rape is seen as totally unacceptable.
2. Age.
Paedophilia is despised in society generally; very large age gaps are considered odd.
3. Availability.
A sexual partner ought ideally to be single or at least separated.
4. Free.
There is still a stigma attached to prostitution, although this seems to be reducing.
5. Stability.
High levels of promiscuity and 'bed-hopping' are frowned upon.
6. Safety.
Sex ought to be 'safe' (barrier methods of contraception should be used) given the risk of disease and pregnancy.
7. Meaning.
It is best if sex is 'meaningful' in the context of a relationship, unless it is a one-night-stand or infidelity, in which case it ought to be meaningless.
Premarital sex: a Christian response
A Christian asks an older friend, "Does the Bible say I can't have sex before I'm married?" They search through the whole Bible... Their conclusion is that there isn't a verse in the Bible which says, "Thou shalt not have sex before marriage". So it's OK? As with all theology and ethics, the case is not built upon one single verse or argument. We will spend most time on the biblical arguments, since these are most often neglected in favour of the pragmatic and cultural ones in contemporary debate. These are the six main lines of argument:
1. Biblical. Given that there is no single text explicitly banning this activity, how do we know what the Bible says? Have a look at the following passages:
Genesis 2:24. Marriage is instituted by God at the very start of biblical history. The order of this verse is important--leave, cleave, then become one flesh (which is physical and spiritual union--not just sex, but not less than that). The positive teaching is that the physical creation is good, sex is good (and pre-fall). Note that the cause of the Fall is not sex (it's to do with the knowledge of good and evil, not knowledge of each other!).
Deuteronomy 22:13-29. Several important things emerge from this chapter. First, virginity at the time of marriage is expected. Second, sex before marriage is termed "a disgraceful act" in verse 21 and is taken very seriously indeed. The verb translated "prostituted herself" is zãnãh (see below). Third, premarital sex, even if it is between two consenting adults, is considered wrong (vv. 23-24) Notice that in this case the "engaged-married" distinction is almost non-existent. Fourthly, sex before marriage must lead to marriage (v. 28-29).
1 Corinthians 6-7. In 6:12-20 Paul combats a sharp dualism between body (which apparently doesn't matter) and spirit (which is supposedly unaffected by physical things). Casual sex is definitely not as trivial as satisfying a physical hunger (v. 13). Bodies are important because God has bought them and will raise them. Note that sex does not create one flesh but one body: premarital sex is not a mini-marriage, but it is encroaching upon the holy ground of marriage in an unacceptable way. One body union should not take place outside of one flesh union.
But it is not just prostitution that is addressed here, nor just dualism. In chapter 7 Paul addresses the situation of two unmarried Christians who are burning with passion (7:8-9) who should either exercise self-control or get married (cf. vv. 36-38). The underlying assumptions are the same as those in Deuteronomy 22.
zãnãh / porneia. It could be argued that the Bible never addresses the modern dilemma of two Christians who love each other and want to have sex before marriage, because these two significant words porneia and zãnãh actually refer to prostitution not premarital sex. Zãnãh is translated by porneia in the Septuagint, and they are roughly equivalent terms. These words are used in descriptions of prostitution (indeed zãnãh occurs most often in metaphorical descriptions of Israel's whoredom" with idolatry). However, they do not just refer to prostitution. See the relevant dictionary articles for more details. And see these verses (and contexts) for the use of porneia: Mat 5:19; Acts 15:20; Gal 5:19; Eph 5:3; 1Thess 4:3; Rev 9:21.
2. Theological. Theological arguments revolve around the covenant of marriage as the proper context for sexual activity and the parallel of marriage with the relationship between God and his people. Premarital sex is wrong, as Ortlund says, because "it toys with the biblical mystery" and violates it. Roman Catholic arguments from natural law state that it is contrary to the purpose of sex (procreation and the education of the resulting child).
3. Traditional. If we are left unconvinced by biblical and theological arguments then the fact that premarital sex has always been held to be wrong by Christians through the centuries must have some weight in our thinking. Whilst it is dangerous to believe something simply because it is the traditional view, the burden of proof is upon anyone who would challenge the consensus of several millennia.
4. Societal. Since premarital sex is not part of God's design for the universe, and marriage is a creation ordinance (i.e. not just for Christians), it follows that premarital sex is not just the best way for Christians but for non-Christians also. Biblical arguments to this effect will probably not convince the non-Christian mind, but there is a great deal of evidence that premarital sex undermines the foundations of a stable society, for which trust, stability, marriage and family, equality and self-control are vital. The emotional strain of "serial monogamy," the risk of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease, for example, show the rational nature of the argument against premarital sex.
5. Pragmatic. Any Christian argument against premarital sex ought to start from the Bible and not from pragmatic concerns. Pragmatic considerations can, however, play a part in the persuasive presentation of the case.
Consequences. What if you get pregnant? What about sexually transmitted disease? Note however, that this is a limited argument given the widespread belief in 'safe sex'. It must be pointed out that even if the unpleasant consequences of premarital sex can be avoided, this does not determine whether it is right or wrong: otherwise we may as well argue that stealing is OK as long as you don't get caught!
Emotional strain. Sex is an emotional activity, and it hurts to be often breaking up with sexual partners. For engaged couples who have waited this long, it is better to wait until you are married for sex, because you never know what might happen before the big day.
Baggage. How will you feel if your current partner ends up married to someone else? Or if you yourself do? How will you feel if you have to confess to several previous partners when you get married? Premarital sexual experience can lead to unhealthy memories and comparisons in marriage. It may also lead to lack of trust in marriages during periods of sexual inactivity (pregnancy, enforced separation due to work, etc.) as couples wonder whether spouses will be able to resist temptation when they have failed before.
Apostasy. There are countless anecdotes of Christians who fall away from the faith because of premarital sexual activity. This may be for indirect reasons: a faulty view of the Bible which leads to a wrong view of sex and other doctrines; a lack of self-control in this area which infects the rest of their Christian life; a hardening of the heart due to the inability to desist from behaviour they know to be wrong; an unhealthy preoccupation with sex or sexual partners at the expense of the nurture of their faith. It is untrue that premarital sex will inevitably lead to backsliding, but it is dangerous.
Sexual evangelism. One argument for dating non-Christians is that it may predispose them or help them to become Christians. Dating non-Christians can involve premarital sex, as they do not necessarily share the same view of sex and they do not have the same reasons or strength for resisting the temptation in any case. Sexual evangelism is never taught in the Bible! And notwithstanding the occasional anecdote, it hardly ever works.
Self-control. Self-control is something we must exercise in all things, sexual and otherwise. Self-control in this area may well be the litmus test of how well we are doing in others.
6. Cultural. In a Christian sub-culture, such as seminary/theological college, a Christian family or a church youth group, it can be a powerful argument against premarital sex that no-one in the group is doing it (or at least, talks about it). When premarital sex is spoken of in other contexts with no holds barred and with little restraint on its practice, the alternative atmosphere of such a sub-culture can be a welcome example and a motivating factor in resisting temptation. It may also indicate that there are other more important things to consider in relationships, of which the world is sometimes only dimly aware. We must not mistake the absence of 'chatter' (or boasting) about premarital sex with the absence of its practice: in many Christian sub-cultures it can and does thrive under the surface while a superficial veneer of piety wards off prying eyes. We must not be naive about this--it does happen. Single seminary students have even been known to sleep with the wives of other students. But a Christian atmosphere can provide a way of bringing such activity out into the open or at least of convicting those involved of their sin and bringing them to repentance.
Pastoral responses
1. Pastoral preaching and teaching
We cannot assume that the biblical and theological understanding of sex, and of the body generally, is properly understood by everyone. In the pulpit, and in marriage preparation, such teaching must be positive as well as negative. Sex is a good thing, created by God to be enjoyed in its proper context--it is not intrinsically evil or unspiritual. This is a prophylactic against a wrong view or use of sex. It is also vital that our teaching is sensitive to human frailty and weakness. Christians are not spiritual superheroes who can rise above any and all temptations in the blink of an eye. We must be careful not to foster the notion that we are beyond temptation or that we do not sin.
2. Self-justification
The in-built capacity we all have for self-justification is particularly evident in the area of sexuality. The counsellor must be aware of several self-justification techniques often used by Christians, and develop ways of addressing them:
Blind-spot tactic: "The Bible isn't clear on the issue."
Minimizing tactic: "Sex before marriage isn't the unforgivable sin!"
Presumption tactic: "God will forgive me--that's his job."
Sola scriptura tactic: "Where's the verse that says it's wrong? It's just tradition!"
Super-Spiritual tactic: "I am free to live as the Spirit leads, and he hasn't told me this is wrong."
Antinomian tactic: "I don't live by Law anymore."
Self-Pity tactic: "I'm so weak! I can't help it!"
Evasion tactic: "Well, we're all sinners aren't we? What makes me any worse than you?"
Blame-Shift tactic: I was seduced!" or "God didn't give me the strength to resist."
Dualist tactic: "It doesn't matter what I do physically. It's the Spirit that's important. I still go to Church, read Christian books, and evangelize my friends..."
Several of these tactics are, at root, theological problems which need to be dealt with on a theological as well as a pastoral level. Indeed, to persuade someone that premarital sex is wrong but to leave them with a dualistic theology of the body, would be bad pastoral practice, as the theology will inevitably cause more problems in the future.
3. Forgiveness
It is important to teach the doctrine of justification clearly, so that a Christian who sins in this area is aware of the offer of forgiveness. We must help people to avoid superstitious notions about God "punishing" Christians who sin sexually. Christians must know how to repent, and be assured that there is real forgiveness. New Christians need to be aware that they have been given a completely fresh start and that their slate has been truly wiped clean.
4. Wisdom
Some Christian groups have rather tight rules and regulations for dating couples, which can become legalistic. While wanting to avoid the burden of asceticism (which can be counter-productive), there are various ways in which dating couples can be advised to "flee fornication." Specifics will depend to some extent on cultural norms. It is always good to encourage the development of elements in a relationship other than physical.
5. Discipline
What can a pastor do to discourage immorality? Church discipline is a difficult practice which must be handled very carefully. Temporary excommunication of the unrepentant can backfire. Church discipline cannot be exercised in isolation from good biblical teaching, sensitive pastoral care and the possibility of complete restoration to fellowship.
6. Consequences
Sin always has consequences, and in this area they can be very serious. The counsellor who wishes to avoid abortion (for example) must be aware of the problems associated with unwanted pregnancies, and if we are to encourage marriage then we must be sensitive to the cultural pressures of widespread cohabitation. Rape counselling can be especially difficult if there is a baby involved as well as the emotional and physical distress of the crime itself. There are also issues relating to sexually transmitted disease to think about. Even when there are no physical consequences to worry about there may be spiritual and emotional scars to deal with.
7. Marriage problems
Research shows that couples who engage in premarital sex are more likely in the long-term to divorce, although there is not necessarily a direct causal link. For Christians there may be problems associated with regret or guilt, or emotional difficulties as a result of the honest disclosure of past transgression. These are potentially easier to deal with in the context of a loving Christian marriage, but may not disappear overnight.

But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.
According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

It is said to be beneficial for people to accumulate as many different experiences of life as possible. Premarital sex with several different partners is said to be one of these experiences. Sex is exciting and is seen by some as an essential component of a good weekend.
3. Sex as 'experiment'.
It is no longer sufficient for a couple to be emotionally, spiritually or intellectually compatible. If they are really serious about each other they ought to discover whether they are sexually compatible, too. In the context of cohabitation, this is sometimes seen as a trial marriage.
4. Sex as 'expression'.
If two people love each other it is seen as natural for them to express that love through sex, regardless of their marital state.
The limits of sex in the world
There is a tendency for Christians to assume that the world is much more sex-crazed than it actually is. It's not quite true to say that "everybody is doing it". There remain, of course, some taboos in this area. If we can speak generally, premarital sex is acceptable in current western societies only within certain limits:
1. Consent.
Rape is seen as totally unacceptable.
2. Age.
Paedophilia is despised in society generally; very large age gaps are considered odd.
3. Availability.
A sexual partner ought ideally to be single or at least separated.
4. Free.
There is still a stigma attached to prostitution, although this seems to be reducing.
5. Stability.
High levels of promiscuity and 'bed-hopping' are frowned upon.
6. Safety.
Sex ought to be 'safe' (barrier methods of contraception should be used) given the risk of disease and pregnancy.
7. Meaning.
It is best if sex is 'meaningful' in the context of a relationship, unless it is a one-night-stand or infidelity, in which case it ought to be meaningless.
Premarital sex: a Christian response
A Christian asks an older friend, "Does the Bible say I can't have sex before I'm married?" They search through the whole Bible... Their conclusion is that there isn't a verse in the Bible which says, "Thou shalt not have sex before marriage". So it's OK? As with all theology and ethics, the case is not built upon one single verse or argument. We will spend most time on the biblical arguments, since these are most often neglected in favour of the pragmatic and cultural ones in contemporary debate. These are the six main lines of argument:
1. Biblical. Given that there is no single text explicitly banning this activity, how do we know what the Bible says? Have a look at the following passages:
Genesis 2:24. Marriage is instituted by God at the very start of biblical history. The order of this verse is important--leave, cleave, then become one flesh (which is physical and spiritual union--not just sex, but not less than that). The positive teaching is that the physical creation is good, sex is good (and pre-fall). Note that the cause of the Fall is not sex (it's to do with the knowledge of good and evil, not knowledge of each other!).
Deuteronomy 22:13-29. Several important things emerge from this chapter. First, virginity at the time of marriage is expected. Second, sex before marriage is termed "a disgraceful act" in verse 21 and is taken very seriously indeed. The verb translated "prostituted herself" is zãnãh (see below). Third, premarital sex, even if it is between two consenting adults, is considered wrong (vv. 23-24) Notice that in this case the "engaged-married" distinction is almost non-existent. Fourthly, sex before marriage must lead to marriage (v. 28-29).
1 Corinthians 6-7. In 6:12-20 Paul combats a sharp dualism between body (which apparently doesn't matter) and spirit (which is supposedly unaffected by physical things). Casual sex is definitely not as trivial as satisfying a physical hunger (v. 13). Bodies are important because God has bought them and will raise them. Note that sex does not create one flesh but one body: premarital sex is not a mini-marriage, but it is encroaching upon the holy ground of marriage in an unacceptable way. One body union should not take place outside of one flesh union.
But it is not just prostitution that is addressed here, nor just dualism. In chapter 7 Paul addresses the situation of two unmarried Christians who are burning with passion (7:8-9) who should either exercise self-control or get married (cf. vv. 36-38). The underlying assumptions are the same as those in Deuteronomy 22.
zãnãh / porneia. It could be argued that the Bible never addresses the modern dilemma of two Christians who love each other and want to have sex before marriage, because these two significant words porneia and zãnãh actually refer to prostitution not premarital sex. Zãnãh is translated by porneia in the Septuagint, and they are roughly equivalent terms. These words are used in descriptions of prostitution (indeed zãnãh occurs most often in metaphorical descriptions of Israel's whoredom" with idolatry). However, they do not just refer to prostitution. See the relevant dictionary articles for more details. And see these verses (and contexts) for the use of porneia: Mat 5:19; Acts 15:20; Gal 5:19; Eph 5:3; 1Thess 4:3; Rev 9:21.
2. Theological. Theological arguments revolve around the covenant of marriage as the proper context for sexual activity and the parallel of marriage with the relationship between God and his people. Premarital sex is wrong, as Ortlund says, because "it toys with the biblical mystery" and violates it. Roman Catholic arguments from natural law state that it is contrary to the purpose of sex (procreation and the education of the resulting child).
3. Traditional. If we are left unconvinced by biblical and theological arguments then the fact that premarital sex has always been held to be wrong by Christians through the centuries must have some weight in our thinking. Whilst it is dangerous to believe something simply because it is the traditional view, the burden of proof is upon anyone who would challenge the consensus of several millennia.
4. Societal. Since premarital sex is not part of God's design for the universe, and marriage is a creation ordinance (i.e. not just for Christians), it follows that premarital sex is not just the best way for Christians but for non-Christians also. Biblical arguments to this effect will probably not convince the non-Christian mind, but there is a great deal of evidence that premarital sex undermines the foundations of a stable society, for which trust, stability, marriage and family, equality and self-control are vital. The emotional strain of "serial monogamy," the risk of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease, for example, show the rational nature of the argument against premarital sex.
5. Pragmatic. Any Christian argument against premarital sex ought to start from the Bible and not from pragmatic concerns. Pragmatic considerations can, however, play a part in the persuasive presentation of the case.
Consequences. What if you get pregnant? What about sexually transmitted disease? Note however, that this is a limited argument given the widespread belief in 'safe sex'. It must be pointed out that even if the unpleasant consequences of premarital sex can be avoided, this does not determine whether it is right or wrong: otherwise we may as well argue that stealing is OK as long as you don't get caught!
Emotional strain. Sex is an emotional activity, and it hurts to be often breaking up with sexual partners. For engaged couples who have waited this long, it is better to wait until you are married for sex, because you never know what might happen before the big day.
Baggage. How will you feel if your current partner ends up married to someone else? Or if you yourself do? How will you feel if you have to confess to several previous partners when you get married? Premarital sexual experience can lead to unhealthy memories and comparisons in marriage. It may also lead to lack of trust in marriages during periods of sexual inactivity (pregnancy, enforced separation due to work, etc.) as couples wonder whether spouses will be able to resist temptation when they have failed before.
Apostasy. There are countless anecdotes of Christians who fall away from the faith because of premarital sexual activity. This may be for indirect reasons: a faulty view of the Bible which leads to a wrong view of sex and other doctrines; a lack of self-control in this area which infects the rest of their Christian life; a hardening of the heart due to the inability to desist from behaviour they know to be wrong; an unhealthy preoccupation with sex or sexual partners at the expense of the nurture of their faith. It is untrue that premarital sex will inevitably lead to backsliding, but it is dangerous.
Sexual evangelism. One argument for dating non-Christians is that it may predispose them or help them to become Christians. Dating non-Christians can involve premarital sex, as they do not necessarily share the same view of sex and they do not have the same reasons or strength for resisting the temptation in any case. Sexual evangelism is never taught in the Bible! And notwithstanding the occasional anecdote, it hardly ever works.
Self-control. Self-control is something we must exercise in all things, sexual and otherwise. Self-control in this area may well be the litmus test of how well we are doing in others.
6. Cultural. In a Christian sub-culture, such as seminary/theological college, a Christian family or a church youth group, it can be a powerful argument against premarital sex that no-one in the group is doing it (or at least, talks about it). When premarital sex is spoken of in other contexts with no holds barred and with little restraint on its practice, the alternative atmosphere of such a sub-culture can be a welcome example and a motivating factor in resisting temptation. It may also indicate that there are other more important things to consider in relationships, of which the world is sometimes only dimly aware. We must not mistake the absence of 'chatter' (or boasting) about premarital sex with the absence of its practice: in many Christian sub-cultures it can and does thrive under the surface while a superficial veneer of piety wards off prying eyes. We must not be naive about this--it does happen. Single seminary students have even been known to sleep with the wives of other students. But a Christian atmosphere can provide a way of bringing such activity out into the open or at least of convicting those involved of their sin and bringing them to repentance.
Pastoral responses
1. Pastoral preaching and teaching
We cannot assume that the biblical and theological understanding of sex, and of the body generally, is properly understood by everyone. In the pulpit, and in marriage preparation, such teaching must be positive as well as negative. Sex is a good thing, created by God to be enjoyed in its proper context--it is not intrinsically evil or unspiritual. This is a prophylactic against a wrong view or use of sex. It is also vital that our teaching is sensitive to human frailty and weakness. Christians are not spiritual superheroes who can rise above any and all temptations in the blink of an eye. We must be careful not to foster the notion that we are beyond temptation or that we do not sin.
2. Self-justification
The in-built capacity we all have for self-justification is particularly evident in the area of sexuality. The counsellor must be aware of several self-justification techniques often used by Christians, and develop ways of addressing them:
Blind-spot tactic: "The Bible isn't clear on the issue."
Minimizing tactic: "Sex before marriage isn't the unforgivable sin!"
Presumption tactic: "God will forgive me--that's his job."
Sola scriptura tactic: "Where's the verse that says it's wrong? It's just tradition!"
Super-Spiritual tactic: "I am free to live as the Spirit leads, and he hasn't told me this is wrong."
Antinomian tactic: "I don't live by Law anymore."
Self-Pity tactic: "I'm so weak! I can't help it!"
Evasion tactic: "Well, we're all sinners aren't we? What makes me any worse than you?"
Blame-Shift tactic: I was seduced!" or "God didn't give me the strength to resist."
Dualist tactic: "It doesn't matter what I do physically. It's the Spirit that's important. I still go to Church, read Christian books, and evangelize my friends..."
Several of these tactics are, at root, theological problems which need to be dealt with on a theological as well as a pastoral level. Indeed, to persuade someone that premarital sex is wrong but to leave them with a dualistic theology of the body, would be bad pastoral practice, as the theology will inevitably cause more problems in the future.
3. Forgiveness
It is important to teach the doctrine of justification clearly, so that a Christian who sins in this area is aware of the offer of forgiveness. We must help people to avoid superstitious notions about God "punishing" Christians who sin sexually. Christians must know how to repent, and be assured that there is real forgiveness. New Christians need to be aware that they have been given a completely fresh start and that their slate has been truly wiped clean.
4. Wisdom
Some Christian groups have rather tight rules and regulations for dating couples, which can become legalistic. While wanting to avoid the burden of asceticism (which can be counter-productive), there are various ways in which dating couples can be advised to "flee fornication." Specifics will depend to some extent on cultural norms. It is always good to encourage the development of elements in a relationship other than physical.
5. Discipline
What can a pastor do to discourage immorality? Church discipline is a difficult practice which must be handled very carefully. Temporary excommunication of the unrepentant can backfire. Church discipline cannot be exercised in isolation from good biblical teaching, sensitive pastoral care and the possibility of complete restoration to fellowship.
6. Consequences
Sin always has consequences, and in this area they can be very serious. The counsellor who wishes to avoid abortion (for example) must be aware of the problems associated with unwanted pregnancies, and if we are to encourage marriage then we must be sensitive to the cultural pressures of widespread cohabitation. Rape counselling can be especially difficult if there is a baby involved as well as the emotional and physical distress of the crime itself. There are also issues relating to sexually transmitted disease to think about. Even when there are no physical consequences to worry about there may be spiritual and emotional scars to deal with.
7. Marriage problems
Research shows that couples who engage in premarital sex are more likely in the long-term to divorce, although there is not necessarily a direct causal link. For Christians there may be problems associated with regret or guilt, or emotional difficulties as a result of the honest disclosure of past transgression. These are potentially easier to deal with in the context of a loving Christian marriage, but may not disappear overnight.

Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.
One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.
According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

28hrs more.
haha.
my left hand was shakying terribly today. Natalia got shocked to see my hand shake. my classmate behind me, 2nd row could also see...
haha. kinda scared if its any symptom or wadeva.
guess wad. i PASSED my maths test w/o practiing..!!! haha. so pro right. BUT. for today's chem.. didn't even flip thorugh notes. if i dun get 0.. i happy already..kinda gave up. coz really. today is simply not a day for test.
anyway.s
today.. John led worship, and i on the guit. i used his guit. apparently, his takamine is kinda good to use.. but not loud.. so dun really think can hear. with insufficient practices and inadequeate experience.... we led God lead us.
learnt alot abt song selection and all also.
weather is really like that today. slow, wet, cool. no mood for studies.
can't seem to do anything right now. ahha. for 3 days.. i'll be on and off... my freq would be changed for awhile lar.

trng.. turned out to be a friendly... coach split us into diff grps... each pair of lane about 1 girl and 4 guys.. so there's a little pressure build-up. then bowled 4 games. scores kinda wierd.. 1st, 2nd, and last game 150 160+.. 3 game was a 109. haha. have yet to analyse y.
basically.. each team have strengths and weakness lar. so was like mental game.
uncle henry is amazing.
he gave us prep talk again. some pointers..
- do not set goals with room for comfort. no drive.
- turnign neg to positve. think.
- encouraging.
- goal setting.
so bascially.. all the current girls wil be rep sa in the nationals. and the guys.. 23 to fight for 12.. i guess gonna harder. fight for 1st team? haha. abit cannot..but nvm.. chiong ar. haha
anyways.
today. after service. i ATTEMPTED to complete my tutorials k. so guai right. but.. my friends are alll ike tutorial 5.. i'm like juz finished 1. ahah. and there's maths. kinda hopeless in it. wanted to start. but dun even know e 1st probs. strugglin liao. haha.
ok. then..
was JAMX. simon's band 'rich' was really really awesome. he's uberly pro. its been long since i've seen him play... still rmbr playing guit with him under the metal shelther of the old church. now.. he's rockstar whom many girls are crazy abt. haha. i think he's band deserves e chamipion.. they came in 2nd.
Good soup was kidna gd too. wad i like was their timing.. and their smiles... like as u see them play.. they smile.. sincere music. other bands juz wanted to look cool on stage.. super personal gains.. but this band, enjoy themselves on stage. simon's band portray those qualities too. kinda intersting.
and now, i'm home. outside rainign cats and dogs. wonder why.

Saints Exploratorium I
nevertheless.. S20 will be the champion in our hearts. haha.
ok lar. today was like some science thing.. abt making rocket. blasting off using pressure.. ahha. ours flew e furtherest, wining e champion. ahhaha. BUT.. we launched it after the event.. so not counted.. we went for the 2nd batch.. didnt' perfom as welll.. but managed to get 2nd..from wad we see.. and 3rd.. from wad we heard. haha. so yea. kinda fun.
jordan adn jian wei and katie were in the thing.. haha. then we're supposed to make 2 rockets. 1 to win, 1 for deco. ahaha. but in the end. the deoc one could impress many with its distance travelled. aahha. we're shocked.. coz really.. the deco one.. anyhow chapalan go and make it look like rocket, thinking it canot fly. ahhaha.
had fun. got brains working. haha.
after that... was guitar.
we have a new conductor. he's super duper strict. and high standard. really rocks lar. kinda reminded me of miss teh, my pass classical guit tchr. she hits my writs if i dun position properly. haha..
this guy is really whoa. he EXPECTS all of us to be in correct position. really felt good and happy for sajc guit essemble. SYF got chance. (: coz i feel that the essem lacks coordination. meaning.. we play same tune at different frets.. the sound is different.. but many ppl dun understand. also.. the importance of posture n putting the guit in the right position is neglected. hopefully.. this yr's J1 will improve like rocket fast. this guy.. even standardise the fingering.. steady right.. juz like ms tey.

after guit.. was tap.. today tap tchr not here! grrr.. so vk, val and i.. were like anyhow practising. haha. then saw the hip hop class.. thinking of rejoinging again. haha. but no time. haha.. then yar.
then was dinner with old friends! zen, reg, shu, billy, pok, thong. its been long since i've gone out with them. ahha. considering that i was sort of e one who brought us together. HARS. haha.
saw a glimpse of chingay. really quite for singapore this yr..
and now. home..

ahha. this yr, lum is the capt, guess its gonna be tough for him.. considering winnning 2 yrs in a row.. and finals MIGHT be in Padang. haha. so ya.

LATE!
ok.
first time in my entire life, got 'booked' for being LATE.
woke up at 7.15am . and i screamed. hahhaha. not screammm but shouted ahhhhh. hahah. spastic.
cabbed to sch at 7.19am. reached sch at 7.35am.terrible. abit disappointed.. but nvm.
( i could have been on time. thanks to the driver who went to BALASTIER to make a HUGE ROUND lar. could have been on time. like literally 7.30am. grrr)
"excuse me miss... already in J1 u setting this kind of standard.. blah blah blah.. (then) what sch are u from?"

then i guiltly wrote down my name and IC no, seeing my name on the nice clean sheet of paper.
haha. and walked to assembly ground and stand with the late comers.
whole new thing to me. haha. now i understand my fellow late comers. haha. kinda interesting that its the tchrs that do the booking and all and not the councillours..
today.. whole day. swuay.
not like bad.. juz plain suay. morning everywhere i go.. i ya. u dun have to know. then thank Good xiao wei save the day for me. coz it was like its gonna be a long day for me...
as usual, GP and maths almost seem redundant. so ya. trng. then went back to sch to train again.....
trng was blah for me. one gd thing was... my speed hit 33.9km/h today! ahaha. that was b4 uncle henry changed me.
basically..wad we're taught in the past, was wrong. we are encouraged to forward-roll.. and coz he says i'm a power bowler, its hard to get rid of the habit. the old habit. haha. so now.. scrap all that i've learnt ever since we stopped coachign with cathay in sec 3.. and start from scratch. really wobbily. now, ball speed dropped to 26.4km/h plus minus... ball drop, litttle rev, timing off. ahha.

was like.. let's runaway. go join canoing or touch rug. haha.
anyways. thats my day. oh.. and i say GRACE TODAY!! ahhaa. (: kinda bz to sit with her. ahha. so yar.
