Dance Arts 23rd Recital 2014

Full dress rehearsal on Sunday,  30th Nov
Performance day on 1st Dec, Monday Evening

hahas! been pretty hectic to blog. and as always, this has always been a memorable event.
this yr's been pretty different for me again. only did 1 tap item due to injuries/committment and all. hence, i had more time to really shoot some photos. used my S125 and my almost dying 30D with the 50mm 1.8  to shoot.

somehow, dance has always been my subconsicous alter ego. i dont usually associate/acknowledge this part of the artsy side as to suit my... erm... style. hahahs. but w/o it (when i had to retreat due to injuries), it feels like a big part of my life was left... unattended. and so.. being the 23rd Recital, this may be my 9th or 10th recital. i can't even rmbr if my very first recital was in 1994 or 1996. i rmbr started dancing at 5 yrs old or smth. haahas! the longest thing i've ever been committed to in my entire life.

over the years, i've seen dancers come and go. more imptly, i've seen dancers grew in their strength and techniques. it kinda feels like seeing little ducklings grow into beautiful swans. hahahs! so for that, it gives me that tinge of warm-awww-feeling. :')

ok.. so here's some of my fav photos of both evenings. pardon for the diff alignment coz of the diff aspect ratio of the photos from the 2 diff cams. didn't have time to edit the photos.
(perhaps shall post up some vids soon!)

rehearsal photos first!

and actual day!
what really gave me a fuzzy feeling was at the dismissal point during intermission, when the kids are released to their parents. the way all the parents hug their respective kids..... i tell you, happy tears in my heart sia. hahahs. this year i didn't 'invite' mother poon along.. ahhhaas. coz its only 1 item, so i shall spare her the trouble. all these yrs, she's been the #1 fan. only the last yr and this yr that she didn't get to watch it live. she dont mind anyways. hahas. but yea, its such joyous times that i really #wishyouwere here to just share the joy with you. but i guess i can deal with it coz.... aunty jill gave me flowers! whahahs. b4 giving them to me, she was like "this may spoil ur image on ur way home but...here's some flowers for u." whahas.

but yea. all the months of preparation... my item is to the 'Cup Song' and 'Happy'. kinda sick of the song coz i've been hearing it since June or smth. ahhahas. this yr didn't make too much mistakes on stage coz of all the practices. there's this part where all of us do the cup thing in a circle.... .for the record, we FINALLY got it 100% right w/o mistakes.. coz that part is relatively fast and requires abit more coordination. ahhhaa. during the technical rehearsals and even full dress rehearsals, someone would either make some mistake by dropping the cup or like miss the beat. quite funny... coz halfway through u'd see cups rolling around. i'm pretty sure ms susan got that "yess ahhh" feeling while watching from the curtains of the final performance. ahhahahs. so yep. here's the photos.

Mother and daughter combo. very talented Tengs.

just before our perfmance. hahas. even after sooooo many years, still feeling that jitters. there's always that 1% chance that u'll blank out on stage man. hahas.

love this item alot too! didn't realized that the dancer was changing on stage until performance day!

all the tchrs & cheographers. Really aweseome stuff
< 3

Ms Susan my tap tchr ever since Day 1.

Ms Shanti my ballet tchr. love her pieces.. very creative, beautiful and inspiring.

and lastly, Aunty Jill aka The Boss. she's the one that has watched me grow since i was 5.

and i present to you... backstage messsss.

oli and dd. the few who have stuck it through it all, rockin' since 1990s. both very talented.

and so.. that's it for this yr. DA Recital happens every fortnight year. this yr, very inspired and there's an 80% chance that i'm finally gg back to Ballet despite the ban from my physio. well. no harm trying right. just be extra careful with the knee i guess. perhaps, might join ms shanti's lyrical jazz as well! ahhas. i guess i said that the last recital, but rugby took up too much time.
but.... this yr, since i've changed (rugby) club and work is more or less settled, i really might consider! just needa manage the finances abit. :) hahahahs, for the record, i used to do Jazz.. but some how, the time slot changed to a Hip Hop class under Patrick. i think when i was about 11 yrs old. his class is freakin good. did about 2 yrs of Hip Hop, 1 recital then i stopped because of the Ballet exams.. actually, its more because i just didn't have the groove of it. too unexpectedly-stiffly-'ballet-trained'. hahahas. missing those times. should have taken more photos then!

so yep. here's to the success of my alter ego on stage. :D
till next time!

propulsion

whookays. what a week again. december's always the happening month despite the exams.
been pretty busy this week coz of the exams and rehearsals. finally cleared all the papers. back to back M11 M15 M17 is really no joke. but good pace there. hahas. engine almost surged, but we did it. results not out yet, but our instructor told us everyone cleared M15 (gas turbine); last paper M17 (propeller) on fri, hope i clean sweep that paper.

Monday will be the start of OJT. we're posted to Base / Hangar. not sure where and what yet. most probably the A380. kinda excited though i've been there hundreds of times for business projections and meetings. let's see how it goes tmr!

ok. let's see what happened during this week.

last sat was yuan ting's wedding! really happy for her.
u know, we're never classmates, just schoolmates. she was our class prefect then, and somehow, we got just got close as the years go by. really proud of u and happy for u! :D have a blessed marriage prefect!
also, glad to see my physics and maths tchr, Mrs Lim and Mr. Pang respectively. hahahs. i guess u're secretly proud (and shocked) of me, now that my job evolves around these 2 subjects. hahahahs.

ok. at work...
still amazed that these of metal can bring the plane up. hope to have more time to read about these engines; how and why they were built.

some random photos of my favourite way of having my milkandcereal breakfast in a jar and how my batchmates chope seat with um.. things they can find in their pockets. ahhas.

hahahs. and so, after M17 paper, PANG KANGG LIAOOO. #TGIF. hahas. time for a group photo but oppps. just got photo bombed. hahas. ok #lame #weallneedsomejokesinlife

also, after the paper on friday, it was the "Food from the Heart" community day. some of the trainee engineers and us headed down to Marine Terrace to pack food and distribute to the community. i didn't stay all the way as i had to rush down for my final dance rehearsal. but within about 20 mins, we're able to pack about 120 bags of food.

meanwhile, missing the days in northern thailand as the team flies up this wk for this yr's trip.
hahahhahahas. just realized my expression for both photos abt the same uh! wahhas! i guess this is my mandatory community-day face.

20th Nov marks the 11th year Poon has left mother earth. been awhile. i dun think i can ever get over his demise. i dun think its just because  of the fact that he's my dad; but more so of the opportunities of the father-daughter combo at aviation stuff. imagine of the conversations we could be having right now.  i guess he would be happy up there, knowing that there's someone to carry on his legacy. u know, to many he's never really left the company. i guess its because of his stupid lame (and sometimes dirty) jokes in the scene that almost everyone knows him, even those atas ppl who are now vps and all.

was just watching the korean drama (My Love From the Star- pls go watch it. the girl super cute and the guy super charming) the other day and picked out an um.. 'advice' from there. hahahhas. the show says something like... if trying to stop thinking of him is so tough, why not just think of him to make u feel better. hmmm. true that. why do we wanna force ourselves to stop thinking of anyone that's so hard to forget? so what if we're able to forget them? i guess here comes the point where i got to be able to distinguish between missing a person / keeping the memories / letting go / regretting abt everything.. along those lines. english not so good to find the best vocab to describe it all.

since we're at it.. 28th Nov. its ur birthday!
this yr was abittt different. i dont rmbr anticipating that date alot early in november as how i would every year. its only when the date '28th nov' was mentioned in class that my heart skipped a beat. it took me with a 3 sec delay to rmbr that its ur bday. anyways, though i know u've never read this space, i just want to wish u a blessed birthday. (: this yr, as u're geographically further away for an exchange programme somewhere in UK, i wish that u're having an awesome journey. always missing u and hoping that someday, we'll be talking again after all these years.

ok. and so, this weekend.
8.30am touch with the team. (:
been awhile since i'm down for touch coz of exam/work and so on. was called up to play against the U20s girls coz they were having their selections. 4 sets of 15 mins. supposed rainy but it was hot sun. hahahs. though i was realllyyyy exhausted, i enjoyed myself.

after that, FINALLY went to climb. haven't climb since batu caves (again, exams being the legit reason). went with the batch boys this time. hahas. first climb, was surprised that i couldn't clear a 5c+ route. hahas. after that discouragingly failed attempt, i went to boulder abit, and stretched out abit. hahas. and for some reason, was able to clear a route that i couldn't clear before. feeling abit more encouraged and hopeful, i tried another 5c 6a route and managed to do it.
was quite happy that another of the guys got introduced to climbing.
then dinner at astons after that. :D

bought a pair of jeans at H&M over at Kallang Wave mall. $15 bucks though i didn't need it. hahas. i guess coz its a manufacturing defect. this size 32 pair is smaller than the size 30 one. hence, nobody buys it that they have to slash the price down like that. i mean, ppl who usually pick up and wear a size 32 wouldn't be able to fit in this mah. i usually buy 27/28 guys pants and it fits me quite well. hahahas. yays.

ok. today!
just came back from Full dress rehearsal.
not gg blog abt this now coz its almost 2am and its Monday tmr!
next post up will be on this :D
